4. Is it true that nuts can lower your risk for cancer?
You’re definitely not nuts for thinking that this high fat super food can reduce your risk of cancer! Certain types of cancer can be kept at bay by increasing your nut consumption. The type of nut, the quantity of nuts and your gender also play a critical role in your reduced cancer risk. For example, a study conducted on over 75,680 women by Brigham and the Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School found that there was a decreased incidence of pancreatic cancer by consuming approximately one ounce of tree nuts such as hazelnuts, macadamias, pecans, walnuts, cashews, pistachios and almonds.
Another 30 year study by Harvard Medical School conducted over 119,000 men and women found that eating tree nuts seven times a week could lower your risk of cancer by approximately 11 percent.
These studies were funded by the International Tree Nut Council Nutrition Research & Education Foundation, but the group had no role in designing or reporting the results of the studies.
Needless to say, it looks quite promising that nuts have a cancer fighting effect. Not only do they fight cancer, but studies also demonstrate that nuts can help you lose weight. So grab that package of almonds and go nuts!
